AlphaTheta CDJ-1500X: the CDJ-3000X screen in a smaller, cheaper deck

ยท DJing

AlphaTheta's CDJ-1500X drops the 3000X's 10.1 inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi cloud playback and live audience requests into a compact 1,699 euro player. Out now.

AlphaTheta has a new media player, and the headline writes itself: it is a CDJ-3000X screen bolted onto a body that is roughly half the size and less than half the price. The CDJ-1500X went on sale on 2 July 2026 for 1,699 euros (about 1,450 pounds), and it is aimed squarely at bars, small clubs, home setups and anyone who wants proper separates without hauling a pair of 3000Xs around.

If you have looked at the XDJ-1000MK2 recently and thought it felt dated, this is why. The CDJ-1500X is the replacement, and it is a big jump.

What is actually new

The screen is the story. You get the same 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen as the flagship CDJ-3000X, on a deck that weighs 3.6 kg instead of 6.0 kg. That one change pulls a lot of the 3000X workflow down into a much cheaper unit.

The physical layout is the other surprise. AlphaTheta stripped most of the buttons off the top. You get eight hot cues, a single beat loop rotary knob, a browse knob, a long tempo fader, and cue, play and shift. Almost everything else, including sync, moved onto the touchscreen. It is a big shift for a brand that used to cover its players in buttons, and it takes a minute to adjust to.

What it replaces

Officially AlphaTheta slots the CDJ-1500X between the XDJ range and the flagship. In practice it steps straight into the space held by the XDJ-1000MK2 and the XDJ-700. The naming is telling: this is a CDJ, not an XDJ, and the standalone XDJ single players now look like the outgoing generation. The jog is a medium size platter borrowed from the OMNIS-DUO, bigger than the XDJ-700 and smaller than the XDJ-1000MK2.

CDJ-1500X vs CDJ-3000X in one breath

Same screen, much smaller box, lower price. You keep the touchscreen, the cloud and streaming, NFC login, OneLibrary and PRO DJ LINK for up to four players. You give up some size, some connectors and some of the tactile buttons. The 3000X still has a coaxial digital output; the 1500X is analog RCA only. If you already run a 3000X club rig, the 1500X is the compact companion, not a straight downgrade.

The good

The catches

Who it is for

Small venues that want a modern player without the flagship price or footprint. Mobile and general DJs who need cloud access and something light to carry. And a growing group of home DJs who would rather have real separates on the desk than an all in one controller. If that is you, this lands right in the sweet spot.

Price and availability

The CDJ-1500X is out now, from 2 July 2026, at a recommended 1,699 euros (about 1,450 pounds, with US pricing in the same ballpark). Full details are on the AlphaTheta product page.

One last thought. A compact deck built around cloud libraries and live audience requests fits neatly with how a lot of sets happen now, including remote gigs and streamed shows. If you play that way, this is the kind of player that travels well.
